Odoo Partner vs Consultant — Canada

Partner. Consultant.
Implementer. What matters.

The Odoo ecosystem uses several terms interchangeably — partner, consultant, implementer, integrator — and the distinctions are worth understanding before you hire someone. Here is what each term means, what Odoo Ready Partner status actually requires, and what to look for beyond the label.

Ready PartnerAltaCom

Entry-level tier. Minimum certified staff, formal Odoo partner agreement, access to partner resources and pricing.

Where most strong regional implementers operate. Tier is not experience.

Appropriate for mid-market implementations and more complex projects.

Gold Partner

Typically large firms or those focused on enterprise Odoo deals.

What to actually evaluate

Beyond the label —
what actually determines project success.

The title matters less than these five things. A Gold Partner with a junior team on your project is worse than a Ready Partner with an experienced lead who has done your type of implementation before.

Implementation experience in your industry

Ask: how many Odoo implementations have you done in construction / manufacturing / distribution? Ask for a reference. Tier and title are secondary to experience in your specific context.

Fixed-price scoping before you commit

Any implementer who cannot give you a fixed-price proposal with defined scope is asking you to sign a blank cheque. Get the scope in writing before any contract.

Who actually does the work

Some firms sell the engagement and subcontract the delivery. Ask specifically which people will work on your project and what their Odoo certifications are. The salesperson is rarely the implementer.

What happens if you part ways

Your Odoo subscription is with Odoo S.A., not your partner. Confirm you have admin access to your own instance and that all custom code is documented and delivered to you. No lock-in.

Canadian tax and compliance knowledge

A partner based outside Canada may not know GST/HST/PST configuration, CRA invoicing requirements, or the specific needs of Alberta or Quebec businesses. Local knowledge matters in ERP configuration.

About AltaCom

We are an Odoo Ready Partner.
Here is what that means for you.

We are a certified Odoo Ready Partner based in Calgary, Alberta. Ready Partner is the foundational tier — it confirms that our team holds Odoo certifications, that we have a formal agreement with Odoo S.A., and that we have access to partner pricing and technical resources.

We do not claim a tier we have not earned. What we bring beyond tier is implementation experience specifically in the Canadian SMB context — construction, oilfield services, distribution, professional services — with an honest approach to scoping that prioritizes your outcome over our billable hours.

The best way to evaluate any Odoo implementer — including us — is to ask for a reference in your industry and to get a fixed-price scope document before you commit. We offer both.
